Navigating Relapses and Sensory Neuropathy
An MS flare-up (relapse) occurs when new neurological symptoms emerge or old ones worsen due to temporary focal inflammation in the central nervous system.
Combating Chronic MS Fatigue
- Energy Conservation: Structure your day with scheduled rest periods and utilize assistive tools for strenuous tasks.
- Cooling Therapy: Heat makes MS symptoms temporarily worse (Uhthoff's phenomenon). Wear cooling vests or take cool baths.
- Low-Impact Aerobics: Gentle stretching and recumbent cycling help maintain muscular strength and fight fatigue.
Clinical alert: If a relapse causes sudden visual changes or severe walking difficulties, contact your MS care nurse about intravenous corticosteroid therapy.
